Easy Homemade Coconut Milk Recipe

By -Tam | Food Apparel 14 Comments

For a good dairy-free option that doesn’t bust your budget, turn to this easy homemade coconut milk!

Homemade Coconut Milk - easy to make in your blender!

GO TO ENTER THE BLENDTEC GIVEAWAY AT THE END OF THIS POST!

We go through milk at my house, let me tell you! But, I do have one kiddo who does not tolerate it well. So I’ve spent a decent amount of time looking into other alternatives so no one feels picked on.

This coconut milk is a favorite. And, no, you don’t have to crack open your own coconut to get this. That would be fun though, huh? Or possibly ridiculously annoying and tedious. Yeah, that’s what I thought.

What you do need to do is get UNSWEETENED coconut flakes (versus the sweetened stuff that is more prevalent on grocery store shelves). Then you get all of the goodness of coconut flakes already processed for you without all of the added sugar. I like to get this one from Target or you can get it online from Amazon (usually about $3-4 dollars).

Then you just combine those coconut flakes with some hot water (make sure it’s hot as this helps the coconut blend better and release its oils), blend, strain (I love using THIS reusable nut sack for the best straining), and done! It’s super easy. You can drink it straight up. You can use it as a substitute in your baking for the dairy. Lots of options here.

If you do want to sweeten this coconut milk up a little but don’t want to add the refined sugar, try dates. If you haven’t discovered this already, dates are a FABULOUS sweetener alternative.

Also, it’s Food Allergy Awareness Week folks! Did you know that eight foods account for 90% of the food allergic reactions in the United States? (source: Foodallergy.org) These foods are peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish. This can be really frustrating, especially with processed food, as some foods may merely come in contact with these items in production, therefore, making them potentially unsafe. Enter BLENDTEC to save the day! Blendtecs are fantastic little tools to whip up your own  delicious allergy-friendly foods without it being a massive production. We’ve teamed up with a fantastic group of Food Bloggers and Blendtec to provide you with some easy allergy friendly recipes and also a GIVEAWAY of the 625 Professional Series Blendtec Blender with an extra Twister Jar! Tammy and I both LOVE LOVE LOVE our Blendtecs and kind of use them for absolutely everything. Seriously guys, they are kitchen life-changers. Go enter below the recipe and then click on the links to find more recipes. Do it now!

Thank you Blendtec, for sponsoring this giveaway and supporting allergy awareness! For more ways Blendtec can help make your food allergy meals easier and some awesome tips check out this post from Holly, Blendtec’s in house dietitian.

both my daughters are coeliac, my granddauaghter is not allowed peanuts(yet) and my 2 brothers and a sister are fructose intolerant so I get to make all sorts of lovely allergy free foods.

I would love to make some mousse and some milkshakes. Oh and maybe a few cocktails for the adults

My daughter In law has celiac sprue disease . She was diagnosed after her son was born! Between the two of us we have never had a great blender and I have heard of so many things you can do with a blentec! We love smoothies which will be great for her to start making since she is pregnant again and her family is trying to eat healthy and her son doesn’t eat veggies well but loves drinks with them in! She has tried making cauliflower pizza but her blender doesn’t do a very good job so it’s a little lumpy 🙂 she would love it….or at least enjoy using mine if I keep it! Hahaha the things to try are endless!

I have celiac disease so I can’t eat anything with wheat/gluten. My husband and I have wanted a blendtec for years!! I am pregnant and we have a 5 year old son, and we just recently started trying to eat healthier and create a better lifestyle for ourselves. I think having a blendtec would really help us all get our servings of fruits and veggies that we need by making smoothies! Plus it would be a fun thing for my son to help us make:) Thank you for the chance to win!

I have a boatload of food allergies: gluten, dairy, peanuts, sugar being the worst. I am very anxious to be able to make green smoothies, coconut milk and a plethora of yummy things to fill the void left by all the absent foods from my menu. I NEED THIS 🙂

I have made this once and didn’t use the hot water and used cold and it wasn’t as good. Now I know better. 🙂
