Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease and flour one 9-inch round baking pan.

In a large bowl, combine flour, malted milk powder, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir to combine.

Add milk, oil, egg, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients.

Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until batter is smooth, about 1 minute, scraping sides with a spatula as needed.

Fold in sour cream until just combined.

Pour into prepared pan and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until set.

Remove from oven and cook in pan on a rack for about 10 minutes.

Remove the cake and cool completely on rack before frosting.
