Brownies in a Jar. Great gift idea for friends and family!

Make these truly gourmet that will knock the socks off any of the store-bought versions by using a high quality cocoa powder (like Scharffen Berger) and adding some chocolate chips to the mix.

Ingredients

For Jar:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder we like Scharffen Berger
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans optional
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips optional

For Making:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks, melted
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

For Assembling Jar:

  1. Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt in a quart jar.
  2. Layer remaining ingredients in the order listed.
  3. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer. (Note: After adding the cocoa powder, wipe out the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel to remove any cocoa powder dust that may have accumulated on the sides.)
  4. Seal and store, or gift with additional instructions.

To Make:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  3. Empty jar of brownie mix into large bowl and stir to blend all ingredients.
  4. Add melted butter and eggs.
  5. Mix until all is moistened and combined.
  6. Spread batter evenly into prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven.
