Easy Caramel White Hot Chocolate Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk or half and half
- 1 cup chopped white chocolate
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions

Warm milk over medium-low heat, stirring frequently.

Once milk starts comes to a scald, add white chocolate and vanilla, turn off heat, and whisk until smooth.

Serve with whipped cream, and our favorite caramel sauce.
White chocolate gets a bad rep amongst chocolate lovers at time. They say “it’s not really chocolate.” But hey, if it comes from the cacao bean (which, it does – it’s the cocoa butter portion of the chocolate), then I say it’s fair game!
Beware though. A lot of white “chocolate” is not what it seems. In fact, make sure that you CHECK THE LABEL CAREFULLY to make sure you are really buying white chocolate. If the label or package says “white confection,” “white chips,” or “white morsels,” for example, but never actually says the word chocolate on the package, then it, in fact, is not real white chocolate made from cocoa butter, but instead fake sugary stuff made with hydrogenated vegetable oil. (And manufacturers would love to call this white chocolate, but the wording is actually regulated by the FDA to avoid false claims in advertising.) You can get away using the fake stuff in some recipes, but when you are making White Hot Chocolate, you get the best creamy texture and flavor by using the real deal. Try a White Chocolate Ghirardelli Bar for your best bet at getting a yummy white hot chocolate at not an outrageous price.
